It's not every day that an NFL franchise gets new digs, which is exactly what Yinzers far and wide were celebrating on this date waaay back in 1999: the groundbreaking ceremony for Heinz Field.

And it wasn't just about a new stadium - Heinz Field symbolized a new era for the city and its beloved Steelers franchise.

The ceremony was a star-studded affair, with team legends such as Franco Harris and Mean Joe Greene in the house. Local dignitaries and representatives from the University of Pittsburgh (co-tenants at the time) were also present.

The groundbreaking ceremony also wasn't just about bricks and mortar. It was a celebration of Pittsburgh's rich football history and the unwavering passion of Steelers Nation.

Heinz Field, then named for its corporate sponsor, became a symbol of the city's resilience and dedication to the team. It was a place where generations of fans would come together to cheer on their heroes in the black and gold.

Since its opening in 2001, Heinz Field (now Acrisure Stadium) has become a cornerstone of Pittsburgh's sporting landscape. So, today, oneBURGH Nation is raising a glass of 'Ahrn City to Heinz Field and we hope you do, too.

Cheers!
