Video: Actor Ed O’Neil Says Getting Cut by Steelers Haunted His Dreams
Did you know Hollywood legend Ed O'Neill, the guy who played Al Bundy on "Married... with Children” and family patriarch Jay Pritchard on “Modern Family” was once - very briefly - a Pittsburgh Steeler?
It’s true: The Steelers signed O’Neil as an undrafted free agent back in 1969 under rookie head coach Chuck Noll but was cut during training camp. He just couldn’t compete with fellow freshman defensive linemen Mean Joe Green and L.C. Greenwood, who ultimately earned roster spots.
The “Dutch” star admitted in a recent interview that not making the team has haunted his dreams for the past 50 years.
Very literally.
